The Salsa congress at bangalore is one event I look forward every year, missed the last 2 year, so made sure I turn up at bangalore no matter what. I landed up at Clarks Exotica,a place which is tucked away on the outskirts on bangalore, that even the seasoned rickshalwallas here don’t know about its existence,may be that’s the reason its exotic, but a perfect place to be once there, nice ambience and just the right kind of anonymity for a Salsa congress, incidentally the rooms were all booked, so my guess is the IISC-09 is a success as far as visitors are concerned.
I missed the workshop but reached just in time for the performances, and stayed on later for the socials.There were 2 performances today by foreign artists,Gian Carlo and Masha, New Zealand and Alex Lee & Kim, USA. Check out the videos below.
The event started with amateur prelims, what was surprising was no one from mumbai had participated in the amatuer prelims. One of the reason might be, that most of the amateurs start their own classes and might be shy of performing in the amateur category. Im really hoping that today(8th Aug), I might see some mumbai performers.
The performances were short and crisp, but i felt there is a desperate need for more talent. The Radio One RJ performances could have been completely avoided, and some Pune guys who took their dance performances way too seriously.
On the people from Mumbai,Except Salsa India people I haven’t seen any other dance schools from mumbai participating in the Congress, What a shame guys, you got to be here. Lourd is a great host, I love the way he has weaved this event. Way to go Lourd!!!
The socials were good, but i couldn’t figure out why the air-conditioning was on low on the dance floor, it was stinking after a while, I managed a couple of dance, it is bit difficult to find someone who will say Yes to a beginner level guy like me.
