A true account by one of the salsera(Malini) on 26/11

Today I can’t bring myself to wax eloquent about the “who’s who” and “wear’s what” of Mumbai glitterati.
Today I need to tell you like it is.

What started out as an average Wednesday in Mumbai (laced with just enough excitement for an evening of disco salsa with new friends) quickly spiralled into a night of total terror as I watched my Mumbai burn.

I had plans to meet my friend for drinks at Dragonfly which happens to be bang opposite the lobby of the Trident Oberoi. Ironically, I had suggested we meet in the hotel lobby at 9:45pm since it would be easier for his cabby to find.

Shall We Dance (2004)

Shall We Dance (2004)

Posted on 27 November 2008 by admin

shall_we_dance John Clark is a man with a wonderful job, a charming wife and a loving family, who nevertheless feels that something is missing as he makes his way every day through the city. Each evening on his commute home, John sees a beautiful woman, staring with a lost expression through the window of a dance studio. Haunted by her gaze, John impulsively jumps off the train one night, and signs up for dance lessons, hoping to meet her. At first, it seems like a mistake. His teacher turns out to be not Paulina, but the older Miss Mitzi, and John proves just as clumsy as his equally clueless classmates on the dance-floor. Even worse, when he does meet Paulina, she icily tells John she hopes he has come to the studio to seriously study dance and not to look for a date. But, as his lessons continue, John falls in love with dancing.

Keeping his new obsession from his family and co-workers, John feverishly trains for Chicago’s biggest dance competition. His friendship with Paulina blossoms, as his enthusiasm rekindles her own lost passion for dance. But the more time John spends away from home, the more his wife becomes suspicious. With his secret about to be revealed, John will have to do some fancy footwork to keep his dream going and realize what it is he really yearns for. Written by Sujit R. Varma

Finally came across a book on SALSA

Posted on 21 November 2008 by admin

Hey, came across this link that offers a book on salsa available for download!!! Not read the book, so far, but it offers a comprehensive consideration of salsa music and its social impact, in its multiple transnational contexts.

NOTE: WinRAR or any other UnRARing software needed to uncompress the file.

Link : http://rapidshare.com/files/144542029/salsa.rar

After downloading the file, unlock the extraction by using following password :
http://www.ddlportal.org/forum

A bit of work but I am sure, the book may give a good insight on the history and adoption of this wonderful dance form.
Whosoever reads the book can share their views on this discussion board.

Sagar.

Testimonials

Posted on 20 November 2008 by admin

I got lot of criticism for writing this review on Quickstep , and now have the irritating task of proving my credentials as a patron of Salsa, who can give qualified reviews, maybe these testimonials I have received might improve my credibility rating here.

"I like what you are doing with mumbai Salsa meetup dude" -Lourd Vijay

"Manoj – you're a troublemaker man ;) .. great to have these articles" -tippi

"Manoj, I do acknowledge ur effort and the amount of time u invest here, its truly commendable."- Avni

" u ve done a damn gr8 job on mtkg and packaging the salsa meetup its unmatchable…." Puja

"Was reading your review and the feedback you got!! Mind blowing!! you have actually awakened souls!!"- Roshni Dsouza

In my opinion, i guess Manoj has some substance in his post otherwise you wont have such a storm of extreme comments – Arun

“ manoj – dude.. this group is what it is.. becos of u man!keep up the good work..  ” Suman

“ Hi Manoj , Its a great job and effort you doing of keeping salsa alive in Bombay."-  Kris Martis

"“ Salsa in Mumbai would not have been what it is without Manoj's dedication, determination and great organisational skills. Many thanks to him for that !!!! ”-Prashant

"“ appreciate your efforts to spread salsa in bombay ”-Raoul

“ He deserves kudos for organising and maintaining this Group ! I had the pleasure to see him do Salsa last week and must say he dances very well, even with the "KNOW BASIC" tag, that he has put for himself. ”- Kamal Mustafa

PS:To read the criticism, check the comments below the review.

PS 2: Would love more testimonials, send me a email at manoj@mumbaisalsameetup.info
